stopped while going

I’ve been fascinated by social diversity for a long time. Mediocrity versus individual uniqueness. Statistical “normal distribution” and extreme values.

An interesting place to observe this diversity is by public transport. Tram or bus passengers are a collection of individuals locked in a certain space, a section of society. Interesting is their behavior in the confined space; interesting are the entities on their own. People spend their time traveling differently: talking, reading, sleeping, eating, making love… Most, however, in a kind of solitude and silence. Paradoxically, although the bus is going – they stop for a moment.

I collected this pictures between 2005-2008, photographing passengers of public transport in Warsaw and also other European cities. I have collected 107 photographs, of which I present eighteen. All have been done with the 2 megapixel camera built in mobile phone.

None of the people were aware they have been photographed.
